On Her Memory:
When asked to think of my worldview, I went through many different possibilities as to what view I could represent in my project. The only thing I knew that I wanted to do with my project was manipulate reality. I knew from the start I wanted my project to be more than just pictures. I wanted to digitally alter my photos in order to create a more definitive worldview. At first I went the route of the fantastical, trying to change the world into something goofy and full of fun. However, the more I thought of ideas the more I realized it wasn’t what I wanted to do. I remembered my final photo project from sophomore year when I edited drawings into photographs. I figured since this was another final photo project, I would make a spiritual successor to my project from two years ago. Once I figured that out, I still had to decide on my worldview. At first I was just going to sprinkle weird creatures throughout my photos like I did with the last final project, but then I thought what if I went a completely different direction. What if I used these cartoonish drawings to create a dark, somber, scary world? While I often tackle my day-to-day life with the courage and suave of Steve Rogers, there are often times the world feels scarier than it is, scarier than it should be. These moments of fear can happen anywhere and they have often controlled my life. Going a step beyond my last final photo project even more, I wanted to create a project with a narrative. This project tells the story of young boy, venturing throughout a world of fear and despair. While there is a specific story I had in my mind while creating these photos, I have chosen not to share it as I feel it limits the possibilities of each photograph to viewers other than myself. I wanted to guide the viewer into making their own story, rather than me just showing them one. The awareness that there is a narrative present, but with no knowledge as to what that story, forces the viewer to make his or her own story. What is their relation to this boy and this world? What is their story?
